Our Infirmary Staff is an integral part of the Camp Ton-A-Wandah Family.  She is critical to maintaining the overall physical and emotional health of the camp community. She will be responsible for assessing any illness or injury that may occur and notifying the Infirmary Director or Medical Director as necessary. Our Health Care Providers oversee health center support personnel and daily health center operations during their session. They will manage all medication administration.  Health Care Providers will be responsible for communicating information to the Camp Director, Physician/Medical Provider, staff and parents as needed during their session. Our Health Care Providers will use the Lead Nurse and other available resources (Camp Director, Associate Director, Office Staff) to address concerns that may arise during their time at camp.
 

Lead Health Care Provider (RN or FNP)

Our Lead Health Care Provider is a full time summer staff member.  This individual should be available to work from Mid-May through Mid-August. The Lead Health Care Provider is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff while camp is in session and provides leadership for the Health Care Providers.  She is responsible for all aspects of the health center operation as well as for all public health concerns in the camp community.  

Health Care Provider (RN, FNP, LPN, EMT)

Our Health Care Provider may be a part-time summer staff member (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Starter Session) but can also work more than one session.  This individual should be available to work at least three weeks.  The Health Care Provider is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff while camp is in session.  

Nurse Student Intern

Our Nurse Student Intern is a full time summer staff member. This individual should be currently enrolled in a nursing program, perferably between their junior and senior year. This individual would work under the direction and supervision of the Health Care Provider staff and assist with the health and safety of campers and staff while camp is in session. This role provides nursing students hands-on clinical experience in a community setting that involves adult and pediatric experience. 

 

Essential Job Functions for Infirmary Staff

Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers.
  • Follow health care policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures.
  • Provide treatment to campers and staff for any medical or mental health needs as directed by standing orders and plan of care.
  • Dispense camper daily medications (including injections) as directed by standing orders or plan of care.
  • Collaborate with other medical/healthcare/mental health care providers and Infirmary staff to meet medical and mental health needs.
  • Make best practice suggestions for camp health and safety needs.
  • Delegate and oversee Infirmary medical visits to appropriate medical staff on the Blue Ridge Healthcare staff.
  • Schedule and arrange for camper transportation to offsite medical facilities as needed.
  • Assist in medical emergency response at camp if situation arises.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association Standards.
  • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp.
Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp.
  • Observe daily cleanliness in the food service facility and other areas throughout camp.
  • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Administrative Team.
  • Discuss healthcare and hygiene with campers and staff.
