Summer Directors are responsible for the overall operation of their area of programming. These women aim to anticipate and respond to the needs of their area effectively, while also being actively involved in camp life as a whole. They evaluate and manage the staff in their area and champion development at all levels, providing feedback as a means to encourage growth.
With Summer availability from mid-May through mid-August, directors typically commit to a full Summer of service. Directors are typically over 21 years of age and preferably can drive. Directors do not live in a cabin with campers, but may share a space with other members of leadership
Activities Director
The Activities Director is one of Camp TAW’s central organizers. She is responsible for developing a camp activity schedule that meets the needs of our campers, and for assigning staff to the appropriate classes. She is directly responsible for the management of activity needs such as ordering and distributing supplies, and ensuring that all paperwork associated with activities is being kept up to date, according to ACA standards and TAW policies. The Activities Director oversees and evaluates the Activity Lead Coordinators, providing prompt, instructive feedback on performance to continue championing growth. They will have a prominent role in our Training Weeks, as they will be responsible for the planning and execution of activity training before camp. Candidates should be willing to speak publicly in front of a crowd of 70 staff members and 185 campers.
Waterfront Director
Camp TAW’s Waterfront Director is responsible for the daily operations of the waterfront including the management and continued training of the lifeguard staff. In addition to overseeing the lifeguards, she supervises all swim lessons and runs the events associated with the Waterfront (Swim Meet and Canoe Meet). While a minimum age of 21 is required, an age of 25 is preferred. Specific certifications are also required for this role such as: a current ACA approved Lifeguard Certification, previous experience managing a waterfront team or equivalent course experience, and a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or equivalent.
Program Director
The Program Director organises all fun events at Camp TAW. She designs, executes, and evaluates Evening Programs, Rainy Day Programs, and Special Camp Programs (i.e. 4th of July). Highly creative, this Director will have a prominent role in Camp TAW’s Training Weeks and will energize Camp with her engaging emcee skills, characterization, and programs.
Area/Head Staff Directors
These women are responsible for the management of Camp TAW’s three cabin areas: Hillside, Lakeside, and Hilltop. One director for each area helps our campers and counselors navigate the Summer camp experience at TAW. These women directly engage with the campers and counselors in their respective areas, offering support and guidance. Directors will support campers through consistent cabin check-ins and partnering with administration to communicate needs of all parties. Area Directors evaluate the counselors working in their area with the assistance of the Session Head Staff. Additionally, Area Directors also manage and evaluate Session Head Staff alongside Administration. As these Directors will help transition counselors to Camp TAW life, they are required to attend and participate enthusiastically in Training Weeks and be willing to speak to an audience of 70 staff members and 185 campers.
Hillside Director serves the youngest age group at Camp TAW, typically rising 1st through 4th grade. While cabin sizes vary, she will typically have four to six cabins under her purview. Each cabin will consist of two to three counselors (preferably three counselors) and anywhere from six to twelve campers.
Lakeside Director serves the campers who are typically rising 5th and 6th graders. There are typically four to six cabins with ten to twelve campers. Supporting these campers are two to three counselors per cabin.
Hilltop Director serves the oldest campers, rising 7th through 10th grade. While she could have up to nine cabins under her guidance, it is more typical for her to manage approximately seven cabins. Each cabin will typically have ten to twelve campers (Laurel Cabin could have up to 17 campers) with two counselors per cabin.
