Youth Development Counselors/Activity Instructors

Youth Development Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. They will assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their cabin, within activities, and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes. Counselors will be assigned to a cabin in one of three areas: Hillside (ages 5-9), Lakeside (ages 10-11) or Hilltop (ages 12-16). The counselor is also responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. They will teach one or more general or special skills with other members of the camp staff. Here are a few of the specialized activities taught here at Camp Ton-A-Wandah.
First year youth development counselors are encouraged to work a full summer season (late-May through early-August).

Junior Counselor/Activity Instructor

Junior Counselors (JC) are one of the caregivers for campers in both their cabin and activity life. The JC is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordinating, and teaching of activities as well as guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills in a cabin setting.  JC's are typically a third in their cabin and their activities so they can be mentored by their peers. They also will meet with a member of the Administration team three times a week to receive guidance and answer questions they may have while working as a Junior Counselor.
