Did you “sleepaway” as a girl – spending idyllic childhood weeks at a pristine lakeside spot each summer? Or do you now have the joy of bundling your own child off for days of adventure? Have you always wished you had gone to camp – or that you could today?

Each summer, as mothers arrive with their daughters – and trunks and memories and hopes in tow – they never fail to tell us how much they wish they could go to camp. Like the experience they’ve sought for their children, these mothers yearn for an escape to simplicity and quiet – long for self-discovery and restoration, for some late-night laughter and time with women friends. And why not? All the things summer camps offer our children are of enduring value to us grown-up girls as well.

So, here it is. Your chance to play camper: to try something new, to rejuvenate, to be free and authentic and casual and carefree and loud and quiet – just like a kid at camp.

Imagine a glorious autumn day in the Blue Ridge – Kodachrome blue sky, sun glinting off the lake, waterfall singing. The day is yours for the taking – no “musts” or “gottas” – just a whole lot of whatever strikes your fancy.

Don’t worry with what to wear – your most comfortable blue jeans will do. You might need a fleecy sweatshirt to knock off the morning chill as you make your way to the lakeside dining hall for breakfast. That’s right – breakfast is ready and waiting, as all your meals for the weekend will be. No cooking and no clean-up. Then it’s time to pick and choose among the wide array of activities we’ve planned, all with grown-up girls in mind. From archery to zumba with massages in the middle, there will be any number of ways for you to try something new on for size. If a structure-free day is what your soul is clamoring for, have at it. Skipping class and breaking other “real world” rules have no consequence here – it’s all good.

Call your best gal pal and make plans. Maybe you’re blessed with sisters whom you never see enough of. Invite your book club to take its regular monthly meetings to a whole new level. Make it a reunion of college roommates. Or come alone and meet new friends. We hope to be booked to overflowing with kindred spirits!

Our Grown-Up Girls Weekend gets underway with registration, beginning on Thursday, September 29. Thursday night will be very low key – just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. Friday will host both in camp and out of camp adventures – depending on what suits your fancy. The hours will whirl by as you spend Saturday and Sunday discovering what you might have been missing from your usual routine – jampacked with more activities that will leave you wanting to come back for more! We’ll say our goodbyes on Sunday, October 2 – all the while inking our calendars for the same time, next year.
