Leadership Team Staff

Maddy L Hillside Head Staff

Maddy L

Hi everyone, I'm Maddy and I am originally from Tasmania, Australia, but I currently live and work at camp year round. This is my third Summer at TAW, and second year in a leadership role as Hillside Head Staff (working with our youngest campers). My favourite parts of camp are seeing the girls build skills, confidence and independence year after year, and all the silly memories we get to make together over the Summer.
I love hiking in the woods, any type of swimming, and reading a good book in the sun.
I'm so excited to see everyone, Summer can't come soon enough!

Hey TAW family! I’m Diana from Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico, and I’m so excited for my third summer at camp! I recently graduated with a degree in English Language Teaching, and when I’m not teaching, I love baking delicious desserts, exploring new places, and enjoying the little adventures life brings.

My favorite thing about camp? Definitely the lake days, campfire sing-alongs, and all the random moments that turn into the best memories. Plus, who can resist a good s’more?

But what truly makes TAW special to me are the amazing women I’ve met here, friends who have become like sisters. Even though we may be miles apart, I’m so grateful to have found a second family at camp.

Fun fact: I have a collection of mugs from different places, and each one has its own little story — some even come with questionable airport packing decisions!

I can’t wait to make new memories and have another amazing summer with all of you!

Harriet M Riding Director

Harriet B Morton is a long-time horsewoman. She started interacting with horses when she was 4 and got her first pony when she was 8. She was fortunate to live in the country on an old farm. A few college students kept their horses there and taught her about riding and horses. Thus, her love of horses was born.

Harriet taught lessons, trained and showed horses and worked at camps during her high school and college years. She attended veterinary college for almost 3 years before deciding she wanted to work with horses and kid’s full time. Harriet started her own riding, boarding and training business when she was 25. 8 years later, she and her parents and husband moved the business to 42 acres in Abbeville, SC. They cleared and built pastures, barns and rings.

In 2018, Harriet “retired” from the horse business. The farm was sold, Harriet and her husband moved to Brevard, NC in 2021, where she focuses on her art business and volunteering for several organizations. Harriet has 2 daughters. Her oldest daughter is in the horse business and manages a stable in Aiken, SC. Her younger daughter is studying to be an equine vet tech.

Harriet’s professional equine experiences span over three and a half decades and include:

  • volunteering in the 4-H Horse Program
  • studying Linda Tellington Jones’s Touch
  • certifying as a CHA Master Instructor
  • directing the riding program at Camp Illahee for 5 yrs
  • certifying as a mental skills coach with Daniel Stewart
  • becoming an Equine Gestalt Method Practitioner

Harriet believes horses play the greatest role as teacher and healers. She makes sure riders understand that horses are part of the team, not just an animal to ride. She considers learning about horses and horsemanship just as important, if not more, than riding.

Zoe R Evening and Special Programs Coordinator

Zoe R

Hey there, my name is Zoe. I was born in Florida but grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. However, I have truly found my home in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.

This is my first year at Camp Ton-A-Wandah, but I have been attending and working at camps for many years!

I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Recreation and Sports Management from Mars Hill University and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Social Impact at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Alongside my studies, I work full-time in ministry, where I focus on community engagement, development, and direct service work.

I am most excited about the opportunity to build meaningful connections with campers and staff, create fun and engaging programming, and be a part of the amazing traditions that make camp special. As Program Coordinator, I look forward to planning and leading activities that bring people together, challenge them to grow, and help create unforgettable memories. I love seeing campers step out of their comfort zones, try new things, and develop confidence through outdoor adventure and teamwork!

I am Wilderness First Responder (WFR) trained, love spelunking (caving), and enjoy leading outdoor adventure trips where I can combine my love for the outdoors with mentoring others!
