Over 600 girls, ages 5 to 16 and hailing from around the country, will attend one or more of Camp Ton-A-Wandah's three 3-week summer sessions. We're especially proud of these girls—every year more than 70% are returning campers. Why is our retention rate so high? One big reason is the activites we offer: archery, horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, land sports, picnics, hiking, whitewater rafting, campouts, and more! An even bigger reason— our exceptional staff!
OUR STAFF
Each summer, we employ over 70 staff members, a diverse group of former campers, college students, teachers, musicians, artists, outdoor enthusiasts, coaches and others from all over the world who share our passion for and commitment to working with children and young women.
CAMP LIFE
Our name in the Cherokee Indian language means “by the fall of water.” Ton-A-Wandah’s ties to Nature and deep respect for the Native Americans who originally inhabited these mountains are the inspiration behind our tradition of aligning our campers into Three Tribes (Cherokee, Mohawk, and Navajo).
Friendly competition throughout each session seals the common bond among tribe members, but never breaks the chain of the Three Tribes. Through the years we've found that this cohesive small group approach melts away the ten-year age difference among campers to create a strong sense of sisterhood and pride.
FACILITIES
Cabin living is cozy and comfortable. Each counselor has a single bed and a space for a standard size trunk, a dresser, and other personal belongings. Each cabin houses 8-14 campers and is equipped with its own bathroom containing two sinks and two toilets. Staff and camper showers are located in separate facilities.
