Ton-A-Wandah is a girls summer camp located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our name means “by the fall of water”.
Since 1933, girls ages 6-15 have come to discover Ton-A-Wandah is more than a place; it's a place in your heart.

Dear Pinnacle Families,
A few days ago we received news of Camp Pinnacle’s decision not to operate their girls camp this season. We are humbled that they have asked us to introduce ourselves to their camp families and thank you for the opportunity to share our program with you. We know that you must be disappointed and will miss the traditions that you have grown to love at Pinnacle. It is our hope that Camp Ton-A-Wandah will not replace Camp Pinnacle but will build upon the camping experience that your daughter enjoys.
Camp Ton-A-Wandah and Camp Pinnacle have shared a kinship for many years. I was a camper at the boys’ camp, and my grandmother Donnie Haynes, who founded our camp in 1933, was the first girls’ camp director at Camp Pinnacle. Donnie was a school teacher who devoted her life to education and providing an exceptional camp experience. As a young widow she founded Camp Ton-A-Wandah with hopes of providing an unspoiled retreat where girls could learn and play in a safe, fun, and nurturing environment.
Seventy-seven years later, we, along with our family and talented staff, follow in Donnie’s footsteps providing the experience that she had envisioned so many years ago. At just 2 miles away, our facility, which is tucked away on a lake at the base of Pinnacle Mountain, is similar in setting to Camp Pinnacle. Tall pines and hemlocks frame our lake and keep our cabins shaded from the sun.
Our program, much like Pinnacle’s, is steeped in time-honored traditions, allowing our campers to become more self-reliant and independent while gaining a strong sense of self worth. Providing an exciting experience that will be remembered for a lifetime is our top agenda.
We are accredited by the American Camping Association and are actively involved in several other industry organizations. We are committed to providing an exceptional camp experience and align our programs with current industry standards and trends. Believing that camp is essential in the development of children, our philanthropic programs allow us to provide experiences for children with cancer in the spring and the underserved population of our community in the fall.
Family values define us and are at the heart of our program, and we hope to share those values with you and your family. Choosing a camp is a very personal decision, and we appreciate the sensitivity of the matter at hand. Again, our hope is not to replace Pinnacle but to provide you with a complementary program where your daughter will continue to have a meaningful camp experience. We encourage you to visit our website and call us with any questions that you may have.
We will extend our early bird discount of 15% to any Pinnacle Families who enroll in our program for the 2010 camp season before the end of March. We hope that we will be able to provide your daughter with a memorable camp experience this summer. Thank you for your time.
We hope to see you this summer!
With regards,
Judy and Billy Haynes Camp Owners
