Since 1933, girls ages 6-15 have come to discover Ton-A-Wandah is more than a place; it's a place in your heart.

Being a Cabin Counselor is a very important responsibility. For the most part, you and your co-counselor are assuming the role of "mom" for approximately 8-12 girls and are basically "on call" for them 24 hours/day! You will be assigned to a cabin in one of three areas: Hillside (ages 5-8), Lakeside (ages 9-11) or Hilltop (ages 12-16). Depending on the age of your campers, a typical day of cabin life might include assisting with general needs for the younger set (i.e. wake-up, meals, hygiene, letters home and rest hour) or planning a tribal competition strategy and the closing banquet details with the older girls. You will also teach one or more general or special skills with other members of our camp staff. As you can see below, we have quite a variety of activities for campers to pick from to customize their daily camp schedules.
Counselor Assistants perform the same duties as Cabin Counselors/Activity Instructors, but are under the guidance and leadership of their older co-counselors. CA's also are not allowed to leave camp property during their scheduled overnights. (Special conditions may apply with parental consent.).
Head Counselors are assigned responsibility for one of the three residential or living areas in camp. They serve as "Chief of Domestic Relations" and "Super Mom" for their area.
An Activity Head is responsible for the daily operation of one or more activities. This includes calendar planning, staff assignments, equipment and safety checks, program evaluation, inventory, etc. Staff in this role must have expertise, experience and appropriate certification in their activity area(s).
Camp Nurse duties include camper and staff medical supervision, medication distribution and oversight, registration screening, daily operation of the camp infirmary, record keeping, and acting "Camp Mom." Camp Nurses are compassionate and caring and know just how to fix that scraped elbow with a little TLC and a band-aid.
