Ton-A-Wandah is a girls summer camp located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our name means “by the fall of water”.

Since 1933, girls ages 6-15 have come to discover Ton-A-Wandah is more than a place; it's a place in your heart.

The Traditions Continue at TAWs Annual Grownup Girls Getaway Weekend

Once a Mohawk, always a Mohawk.

TAW Alumni and new friends alike came together this past weekend to enjoy a Ton-A-Wandah camping experience. It was a picture perfect October weather- sunny days and cool nights, with the first changing leaves reflecting off the lake.  We kicked off the weekend with a pumpkin carving contest that pitted cabin against cabin and the Willow Wicked Six won with their ghoulish entry! After meeting and greeting, we all enjoyed a traditional southern BBQ made specially by the Haynes Family.

Now this is for all you 2009 campers out there.  Remember this summer’s Super Sleuth EP?  Now imagine cabins of 8 running from station to station, in the dark, using clues earned after doing silly songs, guessing games, and skillful tasks like bobbing for apples! It was an exciting experience for all, especially when we made it down to the new fire ring to enjoy songs and s’mores by the waterfall.  What could be better than hanging out with friends is such a magical place?

Some might say, the next day! Classes began after an awesome camp breakfast made fancy by our very own Ton-A-Wandah alumn, Robin Pharris.  Ann Cornay was here teaching Arts and Crafts, showing women how to work with glass.  Mir also returned to the barn to offer trail rides and horseback riding to new and experience riders alike.  Rita Carroll made it up to cast out the canoes and kayaks for all interested in paddling.  Even Margaret came to take photos and Callie’s mom instructed Riflery down at the hut!   The excitement of the ropes course climbers were heard across camp as they zipped down the zip line. Not only were there traditional activities to participate in, but also relaxation, health and beauty were promoted with messages, facials, teeth whiting, fly fishing, pilates, yoga classes and much more!GUGG2009 (38)

More good food and unforgettable fun at the talent show continued on into the night. Cabin acts to solo performance filled the evening into night as we concluded the day with late-night karaoke and dancing!

Sunday morning was cool and crisp as we sang songs, held our closing ceremony and watch the sideshow to wrap up the unforgettable weekend.  Tears and hugs were shared, crafts were collected, numbers were exchanged, and promises were made to return once more…
