Camp Ton-A-Wandah has been owned and operated by members of the Haynes family for three generations. The second of Donnie Haynes's grandsons to follow in her footsteps, Billy Haynes and his wife Judy Haynes serve as the camp's executive directors. Billy is a graduate of Wofford College with a B.A. in psychology. Judy Haynes is a native of Jacksonville and an alumna of the University of North Florida with graduate studies in sociology as well as elementary and secondary education. Together, they are proud to carry on the tradition of guiding campers through action-packed days that create precious summer memories and lifelong friendships.
Garrett has been involved in camping since childhood and professionally since 1994. He came to Ton-A-Wandah in 2000 after hiking the Appalachian Trail and has served as the Mountaineering Director, Associate Director, and Director of Operation at Camp Ton-A-Wandah. Garrett believes that fun and safe camp experience can provide an integral role in child development. His leadership abilities go beyond the boundaries of camp and spill over into the greater camping community. He has served on the Board of the American Camping Association, Western North Carolina Camp Directors Association, and The Henderson County Young Leaders Program. Garrett is our man.
From Cedar Baby to Counselor, Elizabeth is a true Ton-A-Wandah girl through and through! Elizabeth originally hails from Columbia, South Carolina, but spent the last six years in Montana, where she received her graduate degree in journalism and worked for three years as the Communications Manager at YWCA Missoula. Her love for children and passion for youth empowerment stems from her past work and volunteer experiences at the YWCA, as a child advocate, martial arts instructor and leadership development trainer. Recently, she had the opportunity to travel to Cambodia and Vietnam on a fellowship through the U.S. Department of State where she facilitated workshops for women nonprofit leaders and co-led a leadership development training for 90 Cambodian children between the ages of 9 and 15. Elizabeth is thrilled to be back home at Camp Ton-A-Wandah, where she can share her passion for camp and the TAW traditions she loves.
Elizabeth, better known as "Bizzy" at TAW, has been a summer camp girl her whole life! She is a graduate of the University of Florida with degrees in Music and Political Science. Elizabeth has worked at TAW for several summers as a Counselor and now will be joining the permanent program staff. Elizabeth has long held a passion for working with children and youth and has worked as a choral director for a children's show choir, a director for a high school leadership conference, and has volunteered and taught with local school programs, community theater camps, and church community programs. She is excited to join the team here at TAW and hopes to share her enthusiasm for camping and childhood development with all of the Ton-A-Wandah family!
